Hi everyone! I have posted about sustainability before, and am loving all of the new sustainable companies I have discovered. I know you are being flooded with gift ideas, so I thought I would start out my gift guides for the season with one that focuses on more environmentally conscious gifts. Christmas is definitely a time of overconsumption, and buying sustainably is not the only way to make an effort during the holidays. I know every gift can’t be sustainable, but making any effort helps! If you just received a new sweater and don’t need an old one, try re-selling, donating, giving it to a friend- the options are endless! It is unbelievable to me how much clothing ends up in landfills! According to the EPA, landfills received 11.2 million tons of textiles in 2017. I find myself consuming things I don’t need, and am working harder to be more sustainable when I shop and even post-consumption. I included a few of my favorite brands below and the sustainable efforts they have been making.
Dudley Stephens not only has a stylish and comfortable selection but they use recycled yarn to make their products! A note from the sustainability section of their site “Our products are made in Brooklyn from recycled yarn, repurposing over 1 million plastic bottles for the sake of our planet to date.”- how amazing is that!
Similar to Dudley Stephens, Rothy’s also uses recycled plastic water bottles in their production! A note from Rothy’s site “From our materials to our production to the way we treat our people, we consider sustainability every step of the way.”
Not only do I love Everlane’s product offering, but their sustainable practices are also amazing as well. They have very transparent pricing and conditions for their workers, and also source great materials.
I just placed my first Prose order today and could not be more excited! Prose makes customized hair care products that help your hair look its best while eliminating sulfates, parabens, and phthalates. They also don’t test on animals!
Now here are a few gift ideas if you’re looking to be more sustainable this holiday season. You can shop for these items
