As I get back into a routine and the school year is beginning I find myself loving having a routine. Sometimes social media can tend to be an endless feed of people on trips, out to dinner, at events, etc. and it’s important to remember that these are only a small part of everyones day.
Although I had a lot of fun this summer spending time with friends and family, traveling, and having a short break fro teaching it is always nice to get back into a groove. Here are a few of the things I do to help me enjoy the everyday:
This is something I have been doing since I was young. I remember I would wake up everyday and think of something exciting on my agenda for that day. It can be something big an exciting or even something small like signing up for your favorite class at the gym. Having something to motivate you is always a great way to start the day!
Often times there are tasks on a day to day basis that take up time and even cause stress. A great example of this for me is making lunches. I’ve noticed that if I take some time each Sunday to grocery shop and meal prep it makes my mornings WAY less stressful. Instead of throwing something together in a rush and running out the door, I am able to have a healthy lunch prepped and my mornings are seamless. Another thing I love to do is make sure my car is clean / full of gas at the start of each week! It’s so nice to have an organized car and not be reminded of a messy space everyday.
Over the summer I really fell out of my workout routine and noticed a huge difference in my mindset. Since school has started I’ve been back to working out 5 days a week and can already feel a huge difference in how I feel- especially my energy level. Every day doesn’t have to be an intense workout, even a quick walk on the beach with my mom or a 30 minute home workout is always a treat.
No matter where you are there will always be pessimistic people. Typically the five closest people to us have a very large impact, so it is so important to surround yourself with positive people. I love this quote: “You’re the average of the five people spend the most time with,”- Jim Rohn. It doesn’t always have to be friends or family either- think about how much time we spend with coworkers! Sometimes we don’t always have a choice at work but I do find that I am able to surround myself with people at work who I tend to enjoy and are very uplifting. There is always going to be something to complain about, and of course we all complain once in a while. Where I find it to be draining is when there is a consistent negative energy.
Rest makes a HUGE impact in my day to day. I understand that some of us simply do not have the time always for 8 hours a night with busy lives and kids. Something that really changed my life was my Hatch alarm clock- I know this sounds dramatic but it truly changed my sleep. My Hatch helps me fall asleep with a meditation and plays brown noise for the first hour or so when I fall asleep. Then in the morning it wakes me up with a sunrise simulation and a more calming alarm. It helps me have a very restful night and always a peaceful morning.
Setting time limits for yourself on social media is always a great idea! There are days where I tend to spend more time on social media, but on a daily basis I normally spend a few minutes throughout the day and have a much lower screen time. I think scrolling TikTok for hours can be enjoyable, but often we don’t realize how much content we are consuming and how exhausting it can become. It also can really start to impact our mental health even if you aren’t cognizant of this in the moment.
Each day I think it is important to take a little time to do something that sparks joy for you. I have always loved the thought that you can’t pour from an empty cup, so it’s important to find things to fill your cup! For me blogging is something that really fills my cup so I do my best to work on my blog/ social media for a few hours a day! Other little moments like baking, crafting, working out, spending time with friends and family, etc. are all joyful ways to spend a portion of your day!
I hope you enjoyed this post! Have a wonderful rest of your week!
